Angela Carini was beaten in a boxing match at the Olympics by Imane Khelif. What's been said since then has prompted me to start this debate on whether athletes should be used by others to push agendas.
That match has been jumped on by the trans bashers (many of whom seem to have made it their life's mission to become obsessed with trans people and jump on any bandwagon where trans people are involved and many of whom want attention, clicks, have political ambitions, or are just downright sad and lonely internet trolls with little else to do in their lives). As is often the case with these people, they fail to get their facts straight but will instead latch onto the latest "trending" news item to push their own agenda, until so many people have said it that it becomes "true".
Imane Khelif is NOT a trans female and has never claimed to be trans. Even one of the anti-trans in sports poster boys Piers Morgan has confirmed that to be the case. Many of the anti-trans bashers are claiming that she went through male puberty - she didn't.
The view of the loser of the fight
Carini, the loser of the match, said "I quit to save my own life. I went to my coach and said 'enough' because it takes maturity and courage to stop. I didn't feel like fighting anymore." She made no claims of unfairness.
The view of Khelif's next opponent
The next person that will fight Khelif, has said it was Carini's own choice to withdraw, showing little sympathy in the process. "It was her choice...I don’t understand, because I thought every boxer’s mind is the same like mine, to never give up But it was her choice. We don’t know what was the reason. It’s her life, but I know I want to do this in my own life.” They're not claiming unfairness either.
The only people that are claiming unfairness are the anti-trans agenda pushers - when the winner of the match wasn't trans at all.
So the debate is:
Should athletes be used to push agendas?
It is not a debate about trans people, or that fight. It's a debate about whether athletes should be left to get on with what they do best and not be used to push agendas in a world of "fake news" and "alternative facts".
