The British Monarchy: Should it Stay or Should it Go?

As the Queen turns 96, should the British Monarchy stay or go...and why?

If you think stay - should there be any reforms and, if so, what?

If you think go - what should be the replacement, if anything?


Would be helpful if you could say whether you're from the UK, a Republic, or a country where you share our Monarch?

Stay, simply because it's a British institution at this point and responsible for raising the tourism statistics. Plus old Liz is a national treasure.

No need for reform, just recognise it for what it is. A tourist attraction with minimal power and an uncanny ability to boost the nation as and when needed.

Either way, they are not functional, they are basically centuries old Kardashians, they are simply icons that point to what used to be good.

Also have to ask yourself what is going to cost taxpayers more maintaining the current monarchy or removing/replacing it.

But really, what would change if we removed or reformed the monarchy? Fcuk all is my guess.

It can go. Make it an elected monarch who rules for life. That way all the wanky titles such as Prince, Duke, Earl, and Princess can be abolished so no one is born with a special title. It has to be earned.

Being an American, it's difficult for me to say but I say the monarchy should stay. It's an institution, plus it generates who know how much money in tourism... by the way, for all of those tours of Buckingham Palace, who gets the money? I hope it goes to charity. Nevertheless, at some point, it may have to come to an end, who knows? Let it play out. Who knows what will happen?
