First of all the AR was designed for civilian use many years before it was adopted by the military as the M-16.
A semiautomatic weapon fires one shot every time the trigger is pulled. An automatic weapon fires continually until the trigger is released. Know what you are talking about before just repeating others opinions.
The AR-15 is not considered an assault rifle. AR-15 and other semi-automatic rifles are NOT “assault weapons” or “assault rifles.” An assault rifle is fully automatic — a machine gun. Automatic firearms have been severely restricted from civilian ownership since 1934.
And I'll answer all your other nonsense with the 2nd Amendment is not to insure you are allowed to hunt with a fire arm. It is to insure the people have a means to fight a tyrannical government if necessary.
Lastly on your Jan 6th rant. Far more damage and destruction was done by the mostly peaceful demonstrations in Minnesota and other mostly peaceful demonstrations across the US.
And with that being said I'm done with you on this subject.

The statistics of handguns used the most in mass shootings was taken from 1982 onward and from mostly gang related violence. It wasn't until the mid 90s when we started to see school shootings and random mass shootings take place with rifles.

Obviously those handguns were obtained illegally as handguns are the hardest to obtain legally than any other gun. A hunting rifle and shotgun have stricter background checks to obtain, one you even need a hunting license for. The Ar-15 was purchased legally in nearly every mass shooting and school shooting.

You can Obviously kill more with an AR-15 which is easier to obtain and easier to kill with. The only reason pistols were made were for soldiers to have a tactical advantage to switch to a side arm during combat so they don't have to risk getting shot or have the enemy moving up on them as they reload.
 
A claim I can back up with evidence is that other modern countries that had problems with guns PUT RESTRICTIONS ON GUN OWNERSHIP... and it worked... and they don't have tyrannical governments either, contrary to American Republican rhetoric... but Americans are too tied to their gun culture to do anything about the innocent children being killed... coming from the same political party that regularly persecutes and tries to take away the rights of LGBTQ+ people, often for the sake of "protecting the children"... yeah, that's what they actually care about...

You can claim the most obvious solution to gun violence won't work (even though it's worked in other countries), and then do absolutely nothing, and let the problem continue... or you can TRY SOMETHING, and see if it works... which is the better solution... hmm...
 
@Radiation a government that mandates you turn in, relinquish, or submit any possession that is rightfully yours is a tyrannical government.
There are currently just over 3k Federal and 20k State gun control laws. Punishing law abiding citizens by removing a Right to defend themselves is just wrong. Calling 911with a response time between 5 and 6 minutes for level one emergencies, but it could take hours, or even days, for a neighbor complaint or something that is not life-threatening at the moment is not an option when your life is at risk. And what you're saying when you tell people "Let the police/authorities handle it." is that police officers respond to crime and not deter crime.

The 2nd amendment was made during a time where mass shootings weren't taking place, kids weren't being killed and the government wasn't as stable. The amendment has been revised before in 1992 proving as society evolves so should the amendment. The AR-15 IS an assault style weapon, just because it isn't fully automatic, doesn't mean it's not capable of doing the same damage. The military only uses full auto mode for suppressive fire, they usually use single shot.

First of all the M4/M4A1, which is the current standard issue main battle weapon of the US Military, And loosely based on the AR-15 is not capable of full auto fire. Re-educate yourself.
Second, the 1st amendment was also written when the internet and televised News and pre Scientology. Yet the First Amendment still covers your right to freedom of speech on the internet, freedom of the press on television and freedom of religion when practicing Scientology, all of which were not around when the Amendment was written and no way for them to foresee their inevitable invention. Re-educate yourself.
And in 1992 the wording was revised to change the language of the Second Amendment by removing the definition of militia, and striking the conscientious objector clause. Re Educate yourself.
The 2nd amendment gives no shits what the remainder of the world agrees with. A persons rights do not end just because the rest of the world disagrees with it. When Obama was President he held not only al 3 branches of government but a majority large enough to forgo filibuster and still didn't have the votes in either the House or Senate to pass an amendment to change or abolish the 2nd Amendment. This has just become super awkward now. I’ve never seen someone care so little about mass shootings because they falsely believe guns are a human right. They’re not, and anyone who believes owning a gun is more important than the life of a child has zero credibility.
