Living with parents as an adult should legally be classified as a form of punishment

At least, where I live. Which is California. Or is it in California. I don't know anymore my brain is spaghetti from the bad English the parents **** out of their mouths at me more frequently than I would like, much more frequently than I would like. They don't stop talking and they never stop to think.

Typical boomers.

You're how old? Trying to flee the nest? Not an easy task for most, some sail through it but to be honest it sounds the opposite in this case.

What kind of things are you parents saying? It's fine to post it, if not it'll be edited anyway.

It’s not that simple to just move out for some people… some people have financial obligations to their family, care for a family member.. or just simply don’t earn enough. There’s a huge deficits in average wages and the cost of living. We’re in a cost of living crisis in the UK and people are financially destitute… people take their own lives everyday for it here.

I'm definitely not trying to mitigate the difficulty or complexity of moving out of your parents house. There are countless reasons people stay at home, and those reasons are very real. But it's decidedly not a punishment. If you're taking care of your folks, then it's a responsibility. If they're taking care of you, then it's something to be grateful for. But it's not a punishment, it's a choice. You're either choosing to take care of them, they're choosing to take care of you, or you're choosing to take care of each other – be it financially, medically, emotionally, spiritually, ecumenically, grammatically...

Or you should have started saving up for your own property , a long time ago now but i had a mortgage at 19 , i saved every penny i had for four years to get that deposit. Don't blame your parents you make the choices.

Some people are caretakers for their parents in real life. Some people like me love their parents. I don't live with them. But I wouldn't mind staying with them. I help them out every single day 7 days a week 365 days a year. I would be very sad when I lose them whenever they pass on to heaven. I'm grateful to have them today. I thank God for my parents. If I could live with my parents and save a lot of money I would. I've been on my own since I was like 19 years old. And I'm in my late '40s. I couldn't replace my parents. Their angels to me. They're the best. There's nothing wrong with living with your parents. Parents to me are amazing. Parents are very helpful. In my opinion. They would do anything for you. And I would do anything for them. I think that for my parents every single day. And I love them unconditionally. And they love me back unconditionally. So if you want to stay at your parents house that's great If you don't that's great too. You only have one set of parents that's all. Treat them good. You never know when it's going to be the end.

Beautiful words Princessa. You must be a dream of a daughter to your lovely folks. ❤️

I lived with my mother for many years, paid her rent money. Then I bought a house and she could not care for herself so she moved in with me. It was a pleasure to take her house shopping with me. So we flipped roles it went from me living with mom to mom living with kid. Sometimes try to think outside the box not just 1 sentence.

I know financially things are fucked now but I'd really advise setting boundaries as a practice and if that's not respected find a group of friends that can share an apartment as a coop. Found family situation. You're in California, there has to be punk houses.
I was kicked out at 19 and currently living with my mother is literally not a possibility with my sister, her boyfriend, and my nephew living with my mother. Not enough space. But I found punk houses to help get me by finding a found family.

Just food for thought.

Also, I know it sucks but just to reiterate: you are pretty lucky to have stable shelter. It really sucks not to have that.

If you live with your parents you do live by their rules. Unless you pay for half the rent or have other financial arraignments then to be fair your a parasite to your parents who figured they be done with you by now. Even if you love your parents and have a good relationship with them a child should naturally yearn to be free.

No, the punishment would be if they kick you out for being too idle to support yourself.

Be glad you have parents who care enough to share their home and lives with you, a lot of people in this world have no home or parents, and home ownership for most (non wealthy)young people today is little more than a pipe dream.

I live with my mother. I'm 18. I personally don't mind it.

@Samwise is right though.

If you were in foster care you would have been kicked out (when you're 18) because you weren't being in the paycheck. Cruel but true.

I live with my parents they deserve to be looked after when they get older, need help. I will return the years of them helping me and looking after me.

depending on what kind of relationship you have with your parents it's a good thing, can be a cheaper way to live, I only have to pay them $800 a month to help out with some expenses.

It's nice to spend time with your parents my dad retired a few years back, like he said he see's me more in one year than most parents see their kids in 20 years.

It depends on the person though, I like it but it's not for everybody.
