Pinky has been a fantastic moderator for a long time, regardless of her age. She’s got plenty of experience modding Kids Chat and has more than earned her stripes. She can also handle herself. No need to be so patronising.

I agree partially it depends if they’ve modded before. She has the experience so it works. I wouldn’t just take any old 15 years old to mod general chat.

I normally wouldn't weigh in on something like this, but today's the day. I struggle with the idea of mods under the age of 18 across the board. Even in the rooms with an upper age limit, the things that moderators are exposed to are dreadful and often illegal. And the thought of an underage moderator moderating a room with 18+ ******** is something I have been vocally against.

I'm all for kids being kids and living their lives outside of chat, but in select situations, circumstances make that unrealistic or otherwise impossible. @Pinky has made Chat Avenue her home, and from what I've heard, General Chat has been nothing but kind and welcoming to her. She's a good kid with a good head on her shoulders, and has proven herself capable of being able to handle difficult situations appropriately. How @Samwise decides to navigate having a 15 year old moderator in General Chat is on him, but if there was ever a time and a place to make an exception, this is it.

@Pinky, my very best to you - on or off chat, modding or not.

I really do appreciate that 🥰. I’d be lying if I said I haven’t thought about it off and on at times. ATM I just don’t think I can put in enough hours tbh. What I do do is try my best to help you and all the mods out when I can by either sending reports or screenshoting stuff when staff isn’t around. Just playing my small part for our little community of misfit toys 😄

I don’t know Pinky personally but I always absolutely love how she humbles us adults when we run amuck on here. Pinky is a very sweet, witty, Smart soul so I’m so glad that one of these admin nabbed her up. Another thing gen is 13+ so the kiddos will have a more relatable mod in there with them which is also a bonus as well as gen chat having amazing mods to back her up. Congratulations @Pinky youll be amazing in there and I’ll definitely be seeing you there, I chat under Hiraeth🥰

@Pinky has a very good group of mods who welcomed her, and will help her as needed-and she's is doing quite well from what I see. I'm also grateful for her patience and good attitude towards everything.

Ive never hired a mod her age before, but there is a first time for everything - and no one more deserving to the exception to the rule.

Well they are basically a lame duck moderator because nobody should be going to them with mature issues.

Almost seems like a form of child endangerment considering it’s inevitable someone is going to report something to them that they shouldn’t be viewing.

Another poor hire by @Samwise, nothing new here.
 
I promise I’ll do my best. I’ve learned to be very thick skinned in Kids Chat, and here’s why:

  1. I’ve seen more adult content in Kids Chat than General Chat. Unfortunately, they want to be seen by as many of us as they can. They have no shame and make no apologies. They’re predators, and that room was (is) filled with them.
  2. So often a creepy old man would come back and try to blackmail us, telling us they would put our pics on adult sites if we didn’t do as they say. These scum of the earth would then get abusive and nasty with mods for protecting these kids. Some of the death threats and abuse were worse than Gen Chat.
  3. The fact you guys actually CARE about us means you are good people to be around. A lot of you have kids, grandkids and maybe great grandchildren of your own. I wouldn’t be afraid to go to any of you about a creeper: you’ve got such integrity. So the fact you’re concerned with my age I see as a great thing. You’re the very reason I feel safe in there.
  4. Some of you may not know that I was the one that helped a lot in getting the resident creepy guy Dural banned. This is something I’m very proud of. I will keep working at removing these kinds of people every day.
  5. A lot of people think I’m not real or some old person or even have called me a transgender person. I have proved myself as a real person to a number of people on Chat Ave by voice, video, pictures, etc. and even my personal things like my real name and stuff (to very, very trusted people like admins). I don’t ask you to justify yourselves to me, but I have to continually do it over and over.
Being smart and reading a lot isn’t a crime, which is the only thing I’ve ever been guilty of. That, and stealing my auntie’s chocolate. Sorry, Tita.

I still have a lot of insecurities, and I make mistakes a lot and I just try to learn from them. I just try to do my best.

Very well said. Just one comment. You don’t need to prove or justify yourself to anyone. You can be 15 or 95. Female, male, trans, straight, gay, etc. It’s no one’s business but yours. Js ✌🏻

I wish you nothing but the best ☺️. But I do stand by everything I did say earlier with absolutely zero offense intended nor being personal. I just know that if you were my kid (you’re almost young enough to be) I wouldn’t let you moderate a chat room filled with creeps and pedophiles. That’s just me. I hope the adults in that crazy room look out for you because you’re jumping into an adult world whether you realize it or not. It reminds me of what I used to say about BlueEyes in Girls Chat when she was modding young and being abused. She just needs to be a girl. And let the future find its way. Again I wish you the best!

You’re a young girl and yea you know about the adult world but there are so many things about it you don’t know about nor should you at this point in your life. At the end of the day @Pinky is more mature than most adults ive seen on these forums being 15 shoudnt be a factor yea i know theres rules about having an undersge age mod BUT if @Samwise didnt think she wouldnt of been a good fit he wouldnt of hired her so well done on putting his trust in her i for one think pinky will be a great mod in Gen chat she knows the room and knows the people so Congrats Pinky on your new role 😃
 
I really don’t get this condescending argument that Pinky is too young to mod, as if perverts have morals and avoid sending anything to minors. This is chat, it’s unavoidable that we’re all going to see **** we shouldn’t be seeing. Her mod badge isn’t going to change that.

The girl wants to mod, let her mod. Good on Samwise for giving her an opportunity. It’s the least she deserves after the **** she’s been through.

Oh and mark my words, in a few years, Pinky is probably going to be CM. So I’d be nice to her now before it comes back to bite you.
 
As an underage admin and as someone who's modded chat rooms since I was 14, I'll chime in with this.

Maturity level is what matters. And from what I've seen, @Pinky is one of the most mature people in the entire forums. She can decide if she feels overwhelmed by this task for herself.

About the adult content, unfortunately that's going to be seen regardless of whether one's staff or not. So how does having the ability to remove it somehow make it worse?

If you argue that more adult content will be funneled to a mod, then I assure you any Kids Chat user has unfortunately been exposed to more perverts and adult content than General Chat has in its entirety. Should only adults be allowed to moderate any room, including Kids Chat? That's a separate issue, but as is, there's absolutely nothing wrong with a mature, underaged person moderating (and sometimes babysitting) an all ages chatroom.

If y’all would be ok with your 15 year old daughter being exposed to the adult world of pornography and pedophilia that goes around around here especially in the more adult rooms such as General Chat then that would be on your conscious. But I’d be damned if it’d be on mine. I know I’ll sleep good at night knowing I would not allow my 15 year old daughter to be on the front line in an adult war on creeps and pedophiles. Period! ✋

While I get you’re coming from a good place, everything you’re saying is coming across as very patronising and condescending towards Pinky. You’re saying its worse for her to mod the room where she can REMOVE adult content, and instead should focus on being a user where, if she happens to be online when a mod isn’t, she’ll be more exposed to this same content?

Also I’d be curious to know what your suggestion for Kids Chat would be. Do we install adult mods there? How to we vet them to ensure they’re safe to mod a Kids room?

At the end of the day, Pinky is able to make her own decisions on whether she wants to mod. I’m sure Samwise didn’t decide to mod her on a whim. I’ll end again by saying that I totally get where you’re coming from, but you haven’t said how modding exposes her more to this content than if she’s just a user.
 
There’s bad people in all positions of power and influence, from politicians, priests, teachers, police officers, doctors, lawyers and even (God. don’t I know it), parents. If the world were a perfect place, we wouldn’t need authority. We’d all just mesh together and get along.

The world is imperfect, and because I can’t be a doctor just yet, I am doing my best to make a difference by helping keep a room full of some good people clean for those younger than me.

This is all I’ll say on this matter now.

the worst she is exposed to are pedophiles on general chat…

something she was already exposed to as a regular user on general in fact she was already a victim when she was & that user is banned, something she was also exposed to as a mod on kidchat…

there is genuinely nothing on general chat that she didn’t already deal with in kids chat, this isnt singles we’re talking about…
 
It's too early for this crap and I haven't had enough coffee yet. @Pinky isn't being exposed to anything she hasn't already been exposed to just by being a moderator. Obviously she can handle it because she's been a moderator for a long time. So what's the big deal? I always assumed when she turned 18 and could no longer mod for Kids chat that @Samwise would swoop in and steal her before one of the other admins did. Why let good help go to waste??

It doesn't bother me in the least that @Pinky has joined our team, since all that really transpired was her moving from one chatroom to another. She has been a mod for quite some time now as well as a reg in General Chat. She has proven herself as someone who can handle tough situations, and I've seen her actively participate in the betterment of the site as a whole many times.

Sometimes you have to look at the individual instead of an age group. Pinky is in a league all her own and has already proven herself to be a valuable part of the community here.

@MrBlunt This section goes for you as well, please read. The biggest thing to watch out for when becoming a new mod in General Chat is recognizing that the regulars will test you and put you through the ringer. They'll tell you that you're not good enough for the role, but you can easily show them by perseverance and hanging in there. With that said, if you two have any questions about modding, you know how to reach me. Lets go, team!!!

As much as I'd like to relate, sadly I can not 😔. I only found this thread while on the bog this morning, and skim read most of it... then had the great idea to comment... and after that it hit the fan pretty quick
 
If @Pinky wants to make the general chat home, then why not. We only live once. And I personally think she deserves it. More than any one of us. So let her have fun.

I don't see any harm in it. She is a strong, kind, and very patient and funny. And she respects her peers.

@Samwise this is a good choice. You better keep her. Or I'll fuçk up the general chat lol. (I'm playing around)

Exactly look at the history of General Chat that is what worries me. Pinky is a very nice person who has worked through some personal issues. She is probably a lot better mod candidate than most of them but again its General Chat. It is Sam Wise . There is so much pettiness and drama from those who think they are more than what they are. I hope Pinky does not fall down that rabbit hole.
For a lot of the creeps that hang around General Chat 15 year old is probably a tad old for them.

Hey I agree. If you scroll back thru this thread you’ll see how I feel about it all. But by all means don’t put anything at her feet. She’s still the child in all of this
 
First scrolled through all the answers I had to come up with, but it's not been addressed, which surprises me.

As a parent myself, and an uncle to teenage girls, I would absolutely love for no teenager to be exposed to anything. But the truth of the matter is that schools *require* them to be in possession of a laptop and mobile phone. (At least, such is the case in the Netherlands). Furthermore, in the UK children are being encouraged to take up computing skills from a young age, including programming.

Does anyone who has said in this thread that minors should not be exposed to anything on the internet truly believe that any device being able to connect to said internet should be forbidden for those minors? Or is that one of those famous Catch-22 situations?

I hail from a time before the internet, I didn't grow up with any device, not even a games console, and these so called kids (minors) are far more capable with it than I ever will be. And to me that makes them far more suitable to be a mod than someone like me. Of course, there is the matter of maturity, but I don't see that to be the problem in this particular case.

A child is 1 to 12. She is capable enough to mod a room for 13+. Stop treating her like she is a baby who needs protecting. Depending on her upbringing and how she thinks, you don't know her. She can handle a room that is no different from a teen chat full of pervs and much more. I was smoking, drinking by 13, more mature than most of my friends, making my own money by 14. Don't put all youth in a box and say they can't handle a basic chat room.

What in the absolute **** knuckles are you even talking about? I mean I actually had to debate myself whether or not to reply to such stupidity. You were smoking and drinking by 13....wow, good for you. I guess you’re a real role model for young teens then aren’t you...?🙄. Fifteen year old kids are just that, kids. And to be honest, I am becoming a little more appalled when reading all the messages from staff saying how wonderful it is to promote a kid to the front line of adult content. There are a million and one reasons why agencies who cooperate with law enforcement use decoys posing as underage to catch predators. The biggest reason is To not expose minors to that content. But apparently here a lot of staff seems to think that a “maturity level” makes it ok. Need I remind you all *STAFF* we’re talking about the maturity of a 15 year old child! A lot of you should be ashamed of yourselves when you talk about protecting kids here but you’ll celebrate putting a child on the front line in the battle with creeps and pedophiles. One word....SHAME!
