"To Catch a Predator" sting interrupted by Staff

The staff on the boys' chat are known for their quick response in enforcing rules, but ONLY AFTER someone has been abused, hurt, or virtually . Motivated by this, I took it upon myself to proactively identify and report predators to ensure they face appropriate execution BEFORE they're allowed to hurt someone. However, during a recent undercover operation, this "STAFF MEMBER" inadvertently compromised my identity, resulting in this predator being scared off!

This incident raises questions: Was this an attempt to protect predators within the chat? Or was it to conceal the staff's awareness of pedophillic activities that goes on in PMs? Regardless of the intention, undermining the efforts of individuals genuinely striving to improve the community does not reflect well on the moderation team.

This is NOT a complaint. But simply an observation that I wanted to start a discussion about.

Sounds more like the staff taking action against your pedophillic activities. How are the staff to know you're genuinely doing what you say you're doing - which isn't allowed anyway - and not a paedophile yourself? (Rhetorical question)

Are you delusional? Why would "a pedophile" be interested in targeting someone who's over 50 years old? This sounds like you're trying to divert the issue and blame the victim, which only emphasizes my argument further. It suggests that the staff could be hiding something or not being completely transparent about whats going on behind the scenes.

It could be that you're a pedophile trying to talk to other pedophiles about pedophiliac activities under the guise of "undercover" - or worse pretending to be a child which in itself is pedophiliac - so perhaps you're the delusional one here. Secondly, the notion that a pedo would seek out conversations with another pedo, and then flee when a "staff member" drops my name, is beyond irrational. Third your arugment lacks basic logic... why would a pedo go undercover as a child to talk to another pedo about doing pedo activities??

In future, rather than attempting to make a "do mods protect pedos" post, maybe just stick to reporting anything you see and it will be dealt with given enough evidence to do so. That way, no one is "compromising identities"

In future, rather than attempting to make a "do mods protect pedos" post, maybe just stick to reporting anything you see and it will be dealt with given enough evidence to do so. That way, no one is "compromising identities"

So I agree with this 100%. However I was recently in situation that was beyond fucked up. A 60-year-old known pedo decides I'm his next target, hitting me up in PMs to join him for a "fun" session on Skype after calling me cute. Disturbing, right? I do the sensible thing and what all mods ask us to do - report him, even took a screenshot to get this guy done for. And what happens? I'm told there's not enough "evidence" for anything more than a laughable 2-hour timeout for him and that a “fun Skype session” with a minor at the geriatric age of 60 could be harmless and innocent. So I yes, I was infuriated by that and decided to take things in my own hands and obtain the “EVIDENCE” needed to for you awesome mods to do serve the right amount of justice to people like this.

This guy's a known creep, he hangs out in the chatroom for 9-10 hours a day, his friends list basically a lineup of potential victims with no one over the age of 14, and all he gets is a tap on the wrist? What's it gonna take? I get hit with a 24-hour kick for a joke, and this ped roams free? The system is NOT broken, but the confines that limits it are. It's clear that just hitting the report button isn't enough with these seasoned creeps.

SO enough with this "just report and we'll handle it if there's enough evidence" nonsense. It's clear as day that these peds know exactly how to play this sick game, slipping through the cracks, because he’s been doing this for nearly 8 years. I'm beyond fed up with this weak response system that lets peds prey on whomever they want. So, it's time to collect irrefutable evidence that even the most oblivious staff members can't just shrug off or “misinterpret”. There are hundreds of user complaints screaming about mods who seemingly sit on their hands when it comes to situations like this. JUST LOOK AT THE RECENT FORUM POST TITLES in boy chat. BUT we simplyCANNOT just put the blame on mods, given the scraps of info they have to work with. If what your saying is true, that a 60 year old man was asking these things, knowing that you aren't of age, and was reported on site (not with ss, since those can be faked), then I see no reason as to why that would be ignored/ blown off.

No one here is trying to be a FBI detective. If you were nearly virtually raped by a creepy man 4x your elder, maybe your blinders would fall off and you could potentially emphasize with the emotional damage that's caused, when someone experiences something like this.

You are actively taking part in your emotional trauma by baiting yourself and putting yourself in these situations. You should block and report them. If they continue to contact you especially with pedophilic intent then contact law enforcement.

Last year, the mods implemented some specific rules targeting me. I must admit, the kick was somewhat warranted, but the severity? Questionable. This all happened when my trolling was at its peak, and I was dealing with alot of mental issues, but I've really dialed it back as of late.

So TWO mods already informed me, that actions has already taken against him. And how there wasn't "enough evidence" to warrant more than a 2-hour kick and that what he said could actuall be "harmless and innocent".

This "harmless" old man is the very predator I've been covertly trying to expose—a 60-year-old guy who spends his retirement lurking in boys' chats for 9-10 hours EVERY SINGLE DAY. Don't believe me? Go there anytime outside New Zealand's sleeping window, and HE WILL BE THERE! His friends list? A disturbing collection of kids, none older than 14. Tell me, how is that anything but alarming and downright predatory?

And here's the kciker: His defense to the mods about why he couldn't have sent those PMs? He claimed he had me on ignore that day! Yet, he interacts with me and quotes my messages in the main chat on a daily basis... Interesting to say the least.

People can ignore/unignore freely. The best way to protect yourself against these stupid defenses is to use the report function under the top right setting icon. They will get flagged by the system and reviewed by a moderator. That way there is no claiming something did or didn't happen via screenshots.

During that ordeal, I discovered that ignoring and then unignoring someone wipes the chat history. Is there a way to introduce a feature in Cody Chat's software that lets mods access chat history, even when it's been intentionally cleared by using the ignore function?
