What’s the best way to deal with slugs?

I tried giving them beer and that didn’t work.

I’m not keen on electrocuting them with copper.

Some humane way to stop them turning my hosta plants into cheese plants would be appreciated

clean up debris around the garden, any peices of wood, cardboard anything thy can hide under. Go out at wee hours with flashlight and hand pick them off and relocate them. Safers makes a non toxic slug bait but that will kill them .Here I encourge habitat that garter snakes enjoy, you could also sprinkle a light pellet fertilizer, or magnesium sulphate around your plants, they will crawl up to that and avoid.

Crushed eggshells work but put them in a bag in the sun so they dry out, and step on to crush you don't want powder but some sharp edges- plus you will be treating your plants to some calcium which they will like and sprinkle them so a barrier around Hostas.

On topic post: if you put rolled oats in your pans that contain cooking fat, it soaks up all the fat and you can put the hard thing that results out for the birds
