I never got into politics until I came to Chat Avenue and started finding myself reading things, from the WSJ to The Rolling Stone, New York Times and even Breitbart or Newsmax to get a better understanding of both sides.
Of course, I’m smart enough at least to understand a lot of things that you read on these news sites are one person’s take on a particular situation, and what they see can be skewed by rose-coloured glasses.
Both sides of politics push their own narrative and agenda on every happening, from wars to economic crises and climate.
Here in Australia we have leftist media like AAP, Seven & Ten Networks, along with right-wing outlets like Sky News and Fox News Australia, Daily Mail, News.com.au and Nine News.
To be honest, many of the real crazies Down Under also follow extreme left-wing media like CNN and msnbc and the extreme right-wingers follow OAN, Breitbart and Newsmax, as some of our readers/followers feel the other side of politics has infiltrated their side, e.g. the left vs the right and the right vs the left.
I’ve never really taken a side with most things, but I do find DJT, JDV, RFK, et al to be a little bit on the extreme side, with even WSJ saying they plan on spending upwards of $1 Trillion on mass deportation of possibly more than 20 million illegal immigrants and even asylum seekers.
Considering both the USA and Australia are countries founded on stolen land (and let’s not kid ourselves, it was stolen from the natives), we sure take a lot of liberties with it.
What ever happened to the words of the beautiful sonnet penned by Emma Lazarus, which contains some of the deepest fundamental beliefs of the USA; “Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free” inscribed at the bottom of your Statue of Liberty? Or does that only entail people of a certain creed, skin tone and heritage?
Excuse my sudden outpouring of political rage. Just, in the face of the current situation, we need to remember to not be afraid to consider both sides of the political spectrum.
