When a user is banned from a chat room, they have an avenue of appeal by coming to forums, and have their ban reviewed by the admin that banned them.
On Forums, when a user is banned they cannot post on forums so they cannot have their ban reviewed by the person that banned them. The only time I’ve seen this happen is where users are friendly with a UM who is also an admin of a room they frequent.
As rooms (mostly) have only one admin but forums users have multiple UMs with the ability to ban, my suggestion is:
Have an area of forums where banned users can appeal their ban and all 4 UMs can review what led to the ban, the evidence in support of the ban, and then vote on whether a ban should be overturned. In a case of deadlock, the longest serving UM should get the casting vote.
Too many users seem to get banned too frequently and without any clear way of redress other than complaining to CM after the ban is over which is pointless because it’s over, or being friendly with particular staff.
My suggestion would also do away with any perception of bias and favouritism which is running rampant lately.
