Female UM?

I made a point in another thread that sometimes, people prefer speaking to a particular gender in regards to issues.

Could we consider getting a female UM for this reason?

A woman reporting sexual harassment might not want to deal with a male, for example. On the other foot, a male might not want to speak to a female... or maybe he does want to speak to a female over more sensitive issues that wouldn't be deemed masculine or something. It could also help to have someone see something from another viewpoint.

Not disregarding current UMs (Well, not the majority of them) being approachable or anything. Just think it might be a nice idea to have both a female and a male in a UM position for moments where this might be the case?

Thoughts?

I would suggest also mentioning non binary etc to apply so he doesn’t try and hold discrimination against you. But then if you did, any comments specifically aimed at trans etc would just be allowed. By the one who’s gaslighting you into being branded a bigot.

So now nobody can request a female doctor. Or a male doctor. Or have past traumas that stop them wanting to approach a specific gender because they're uncomfortable with a different gender.

Nor could they request a female counsellor or male counsellor. Or a female police officer or male officer... Because UMs are technically the police of this site, right?

This is making you look pathetic.

It is true though, that some people do prefer it. It happens alot with therapists (which, ik we aren't, but its still the same point of talking out about things)

But yeah, you could maybe make the argument that people who only want to speak to a certain gender are being discriminatory, but alot of the time its due to very serious issues. And to just say its being that... is a bit insensitive.

Of course I cant say what exactly @Louize intentions are, but I believe the point of talking to people of a different gender, for certain things, is actually quite caring

This is a chat site, not being a peace officer of doctor. No one is being physically examined , or anything similar and anything private/sensitive should go to CM anyhow

ok but its not meant to be insensitive, its more there are 30 forums users, and nothing to suggest there is a backlog of cases needing specialized help along the lines of being a cop/doctor/therapist thats beyond the role of all staff here regardless of genders. (imo)
 
Non binary is great, and I'd support a trans UM, too.

A female UM is the easiest issue to tackle before this, though, due to a larger population, and most would be happier just having at least a male UM and a female UM.

And yet if I have an issue with speaking to males because I'm being sexually harassed by males on this site, I'd have to speak to a male even if I went to CM. Therfore, a female UM would be a great go between.

How about as a male who feels threatened by other males wanting to speak to a female... They also have no option.

There are no females in an authority position on this site in regards to forums and given two current MALE UMs in the last 24 hours have been accused and/or proven to harass women, why would any woman now feel comfortable approaching them? 🤔

Cause this will come up. Even if they are faked, which they may be, people will see that and still feel uncomfortable with it. True or not.

And we should strive to make things as accessible to people as possible (no matter how impossible it may seem at times lol)

Very much so. And since rules actually say regarding use of other languages, if a mod can understand it its fine, so could offer some people more confidence to speak in native tongue.

We need a new thread for this suggestion too now lol

All good points.

How would you know any UM was any gender, and how would you know what CM team gender is? It seems to me there are a lot of assumptions to acheive a goal of gender representation for a problem not even shown to exist.

Wait if I’m being discriminating please let me know. Wouldn’t want to ASSOOM your gender and get caught in a loophole ban
 
i love that my post was removed because it's derailing when it was a legitimate response to his question....that may or may not have been a reference to his modding techniques that he swears he doesn't do...but if he's innocent...then there's nothing wrong with my question

Well, usually when getting to know people they will tell you that. And if someone is gender fluid, in which it changes from time to time to suit how they are currently feeling. Most of them let it be known which one is currently... "active".

I knew someone who would simply put a little message on their profile on discord to say.

(Edit: altho, theirs wasn't for gender related, it was something else which I wont get into for privacy, but same thing can and has been done)
