Insomnia...

Well I was diagnosed with chronic insomnia when I was 15. It's tough but you have to find out what works for you if you're not on medication, which honestly I don't advice. Do you sleep during the day time?

I tend to sleep late at night....if I can fall asleep at all that is. If I decided to take a nap during the day, I'd probably end up sleeping 8-9 hours. I'm not able to take short naps during the day and I usually feel terrible when I sleep during the day. It feels as though I've been up for days.
I never used to have sleeping problems, it is something I've had for the last couple of weeks.

If you're able to sleep, uninterrupted during the day, then you probably have to try to set your sleep cycle again. If you aren't able to do so and this continues to affect your function in daily life, go talk to a physician and get a sleep assessment to check if there is some underlying problem that causes you to wake up during the night. (sleep apnoea- do you snore?, etc)

But things that help when you can't sleep: avoid caffeine (obviously) and get suffiecient physical activity done during the day (gym or whatever) but not immediately before sleeping. Before you're about to sleep take a warm bath and have some warm milk. Milk contains tryptophan that is converted into a sleep regulating hormone. Supplementing it with a carbohydrate snack actually makes the tryptophan more readily avaible to the brain (tryptophan passes even more easily across the blood brain barrier)- which is why carb rich meals make you drowsy. But all of this just enhances your ability to fall asleep not essentially maintain sleep.

One of the problems I face while sleeping is trying to... well stop thinking. So I have no idea if this would help you, but it works for me at times. Ensure there is no light stimulant in your room and you're all tucked into bed warm and comfortable, then listen to some delta wave music (*******) and try to focus only on the music. This usually helps me to slowly tune out my thoughts and while focusing only on the music I'm sometimes lulled to sleep.
Obvioulsy if there is some underlying stress in your life that isn't challenging you but causing you anxiety it would help to resolve that. (easier said then done, I know lol)

Anyway that's what I usually do, hope it helps. Best of luck.

I have a lot of problems with sleeping. When I go to bed late I tend to sleep until 11 a.m. When I go to bed earlier I usually wake up at 4-5 a.m. and can't fall asleep. I tried to stay in bed and try to continue sleeping but it didn't work. I tried to play the mobile games in bad, but it also didn't work. Now when I wake up at 4 a.m. I go to drink a glass of water and then listen to music in bed. I set up my music player in a phone to shut down in 40 minutes, Sometimes it works.

Insomnia

I need some tips and tricks on how to fall asleep at night. I randomly wakeup in the middle of the night at 3 am and have a hard time going back to sleep again.
Hi, I had the same problem. I found a product on Amazon called Sleep Aid put out by Kirkland, a Costco product. It works great and you can go back to sleep easily.

Define 'few'!

Bikkies in this house range from:

Get Out Of Here
: 1 bikkie on its tod
Taster - 2 to 5
Sampler - 6 to 10
'Goldilocks 'Just right' Zone - 11 or more
Heaven - As for the 'Goldilocks' 'Just Right' Zone but with a side plate of another dozen 'for later'...

Ambien, some side effects at first but short lived and it is effective. Perhaps I am addicted but I sleep without problem as long as I pop one.

After years of taking Ativan for occasional insomnia, I take melatonin 5 mg every night now instead. It helps you fall asleep fast, stay asleep longer, go back to sleep quicker when you wake up to pee. I can sleep more than 9 hours taking this. It starts to work the first night and you can adjust the dose if you feel sleepy during the day. It doesn't seem to have any side effects and my psychiatrist was the one who recommended this instead of using prescription so much. Hope this helps. I know how desperate I feel when I don't get enough sleep.

Hi, has your sleep improved any? Are you seeing a psychiatrist? I'm bipolar and whenever I go 3 nights without a wink of sleep, I have to be hospitalized. Racing thoughts keep me from relaxing enough to sleep and I have to be sedated or my meds have to be adjusted. After 30 years, I've come to recognize the warning signs thankfully and can usually stop it by calling my shrink early enough to get advice. I hope you've got your sleep back to normal and I know how much we can dread bedtime because of this problem.

Thanks for sharing! I didn't know that it can be so helpful.

What are some things you do to cope with Insomnia?

I have the following recommendations:

  • Talk to your doctor about trying OTC Melatonin
  • Sleep better when you exercise daily or even walk 15-30 minutes per day
  • Eat better and improve overall fatigue
  • Improve your sleep/wake schedule and productivity during the day to better balance yourself at night
  • Stop eating at least 2 hours before bed
  • Minimize or decrease (salts/sugar) snacks before bed
  • Stop using your cellphone in the bed (even with low contrast) as it continues to make your brain function/awake/busy
  • Create a ritual of warm shower, relaxation, dark lights, and soothing music for sleep

I typically feel sleepy after a big meal, so I do the exact opposite and it helps me get to sleep.

That makes sense. I have read research in the past indicating high sodium (salt)/glucose (sugar) will raise blood pressure and give your body the feeling of being full and fatigued. However, this could lead to waking up repeatedly in the night for "another dose" of said sugar or salt, depending on the person's body, health, and diet.

That's good that it helps sleep - but bad for burning fat and staying healthy. There are some difficulties with this.

I had bad acid reflux - so maybe the beauty of still being young? :shock1:

You should add caffeine to your list. I drink a lot of iced tea during the day, but once I eat dinner I switch to water. People I know who have a hard time sleeping spend all day drinking coffee and/or soda. This is a big no-no, especially after sunset.

I find that a calcium and magnesium supplement before bed really helps. Tried CBD but makes me too groggy

You can take sleeping pills, but they should be prescribed by your doctor. Also I recommend to find out possible side effects first. It is easy to do this online. But if I were you, I would try the alternative ways before taking medications.
Here are some tips for beating insomnia:
1. Wake up at the same time each day.
2. Limit naps.
3. Exercise regularly.
4. Do exercises.
5. Eliminate alcohol and stimulants like nicotine and caffeine.
6. Do not eat or drink right before going to bed.
7. Choose your most comfortable pillow and mattress.

CBD gives me a fuzzy head, weed is illegal, sleeping tablets are a short term fix… but as a chronic insomniac I have found the best cure to be exhaustion and a bedtime routine.. so for example, I always brush my teeth and cleanse my face and lotion last thing at night and I think the scents and the rituals have now become associated with relaxing. It doesn’t always help but at least it’s something.

You should start life coaching. Because Last year I was also suffering from this then someone recommend me for life coaching and now I no longer have insomnia, thank you The Coach Training Academy for improve my mental health and no more insomnia. When I start to not sleep well and having depression, I started life coaching. Life coaching makes me feel free from insomnia and depression as well. Highly recommended for this.

It’s important to determine whether or not an underlying issue or medical condition is causing your insomnia. Some cases of insomnia are a result of stress or some other emotional or physical condition that needs separate treatment. Many times, sleep patterns return to normal when these conditions are successfully treated.

i have found that having a wind down time along with getting some heat and warmth and many hugs can be v useful- in my case of consistent insomnia it helped

I often suffer from insomnia. My head starts thinking things as soon as it hits the pillow. I can be awake for hours at that makes me more anxious. I started taking sleeping pills, but I'm worried it's not good for my health either.

My sleep is not so bad at the moment. However, I should pass that way, from being hours awake, taking pills, to finally get used to a sleeping schedule.

I don't remember what it is like to sleep normally and have a dream. Because of my neurological disorders I have to use medications to sleep and when they take effect I'm out. Its like turning off your computer and rebooting. I don't get that sensation of time passing.
I don't knowhow long I'd go with out sleep if I didn't take my pimozide and melatonin.

It was really hard but possible. I decided to change my sleeping habits after I started experiencing some of the side effects stated at the Canada Drugs website. It's also not recommended to take meds for a long period of time, so I needed to change sth.

Has she experiences some stress lately? Try to find out the reason. However, older ppl tend to have sleeping problems. My parents were suggested to take vitamin bundles for better sleep. I've read some good reviews here about rest easy vitamins. I'm thinking to buy them maybe. Anyone has experience with such daily sleep and joint supplements?

I'll sleep on it lol (sorry - couldn't resist)

Sometimes eating a heavy meal late at night will boost your energy. Try to eat your dinner or last meal of the day early so you are able to digest. Also drinking some decaffeinated tea or other tea and sleeping herbs such as chamomile tea with no sweeteners will definitely help you sleep.
Turn your computer or television off and get yourself ready to go to sleep. If you think it's something medical please see your doctor.

I know someone who gives me insomnia....they are so mature and oh so 50 shades of grey, a gay and a top.

O ye hath stolen mine heart!

To help insomnia

Eat at set times in the day
Eat foods that are full of high protein high energy (no dead calories)
Only use your room to sleep in(retrain your mind that the bedroom is for sleep, it works)
No caffeine/stimulants after 12pm
Eliminate blue light atleast 1 + hour before bed
Turn all devices off in room (you can listen to relaxing sounds if you feel it’ll help)
Spraying lavender in the air can also help relax and put you to sleep

Continuously do this for a week to reset your body clock and get into a pattern

I’ve had insomnia since 6 👀

But those steps are legit the steps I took when quitting 🍁 to get proper deep rem sleep

It took a bit for the body to reset to the times but it works

Who needs stimulation when you have jiggles right by you?

Fresh Aussie meatballs.

Typical allergy pills will help if you take them an hour before bed. Along with that, I've tried a trick that helps. Lie in your bed, and tense all of your muscles at the same time and hold it for 30 seconds. don't strain yourself or tense too hard, just enough for you to feel it. After 30 seconds, let loose and you should feel comfortable and relaxed enough to sleep. Lmk.

All got from this is “tense all of your muscles at the same time”. Oh. 😉

Some people I knew complained of insomnia. However, some of them found a way out and no longer complain. They said they had tried CBD products. In case you were wondering, they said that at they found some pretty interesting information about such products. Maybe it will help you too.

I tend to just lay there, eventually I'll fall asleep

Could be 15 minutes, could be 3 hours, but it happens

And despite occasionally people saying having white noise kinda stuff helps... personally it makes it worse, just need silence and darkness, eventually the thoughts stop

Or medication, thats works (sometimes)

I haven’t had a good sleep in like 10 years, and it got worse the last 5.

What has worked for me:

-I’m very high energy so I work out twice a day(4am) and at 5pm. And even then sometimes I’m still restless and full of energy.

-take melatonin(doesn’t work on me)

-take zzzquil(works wonders for me) but you might still wake up at 3am(take another zzzquil dose if that happens) only side effect is if you take too much you’ll wake up drowsy feeling like ****

-don’t go to bed early if you go to bed at 10, go to bed at 11-12

-stay off your phone before bed. If I’m on TikTok while I’m bed ima be on the app for like 2 hours and not sleep

-THC gunmies( best and most natural way guaranteed to knock you on your ass)

-I’ve tried hydrocodone a they do the job but not good for you and wake up feeling hung over.

-earplugs for noise canceling and make your room as dark as possible and turn the air conditioner on

-lay off caffeine

-after a while you get used to it. I average 4 hours a night and I can run like a pristine well oiled machine

-I also live a very healthy and active life style so my lack of sleep might not be health related (or maybe)

For me is anxiety before I fall asleep....like for example my eyes roll back and I'm about to go to sleep and boom anxiety attack.... after that I can fall asleep and stay asleep.....it's 3am and I can't sleep 🙄😒😮‍💨

These days I woke up at least 4-5 times per night and it takes me a lot of time to fall asleep again.
Reason for that is my tinnitus and white noise machine is not a huge help anymore.
I even checked my hearing on hearing test online, but it seems to be alright at the moment.
