New class of mod, but not really.

Do you think something like this would be feasible?

  • No, this sounds dumb, I enjoy seeing predators lurk the site when mods aren’t present

I’m a dreamer. Sometimes I dream of a chat where we don’t have to deal with seeing people trying to sell disgusting things on Discord the minute that a mod leaves the room. AHEM* We all know what I’m talking about, it’s a plague that somehow hits the screen *the minute * that the mods leave.
In the past I have mused about maybe having a vote to kick option that THE COMMUNITY AT LARGE could take advantage of to remove that kind of problem when said moderators are not around. (I’m not bashing mods, I’m thankful for all of the time that you all put in to keeping things clean for us, you all do the best you can BUT you can’t be there all the time so here we are)
The responses I got in the past were that it would be abused (valid point), so I was thinking that this kind of thing could be offered to people who frequent the chat and are vips, sort of way to further enrich the experience and help the mods not have to take care of 30 minutes of backtracking every time they come in the room.
How many votes would be needed? Can a community really be capable of self moderation? Who would get to vote ? Anybody ? Select few? Users only ? VIP only ? Ex mods only? Only mods from other rooms ? Would this work only in robust communities that have lots of ******** or would it work in smaller more tight knit chats ?

Valid point @NavyWings . I was thinking about how the number would have to be small ish, for anything to ever get done. The larger the number the harder that would be.

I think it would be a cool feature if there was a way to ensure it wasn’t abused.

Curious, though - at that rate, why not just be a mod?

I don’t envy the power over other ******** or the strings that come long with said position.

There is also a part of me that believes that even ******** who don’t get along or are not necessarily friends could agree on what type of material needed the boot . If people who weren’t friends were thrown together it might keep the abuse of it to a minimum? Or. Get this. Maybe it’s a random lottery of five that’s announced? Like a button that has to get pressed by the memebers and then 5 Randi’s are picked ? In that way it’s never the same group. I think if you picked five random ******** and pointed at that vile mess they’d all click the boot. 👢

I've been in chatrooms that do this. Ultimately it never really works. The voting was 10 to kick. They were either gone before you ever got 10 or getting 10 people to agree to something was virtually impossible. Nice in theory but the work involved to get there compared to the actual benefit is likely too high.
Just out of curiosity. How long was it ran like this?

The kind of troll that has an account is almost priceless. They make the room fun. It’s the guest accounts that know they only have so much time before being kicked by a mod that are usually awful. That aside. It’s not really troll content that I’m talking about getting rid of. I think even the trolls would vote to boot the predators.

Don't the Admins still have a "temp mod" function ?. I do recall HR giving it to myself and Hexey but you could only mute and it wasn't effective unless no mods were there and you could keep muting the trolls constantly till you wore them out and they left. lol

I mean.

Kind of sounds like the same thing.

VIPs haha. Just because mommy and daddy bought them for said user, doesn’t mean they have any right to kick when a mod isn’t present. Sorry but I believe this is not a good idea.

What is will be allowing unlimited reporting.

lol.

HR made that up "the temp mod" thing. That was solely his thing he did.

There isn't an actual role titled "temp mod" but room admins can temporarily give moderator access to assess a persons capability, subject to Chatmaster hovering over a room admin and removing that permission, which can and has happened previously - both on a temporary basis or not.

Room Admins do get "free reign" to a point to generate room rules, to give moderator access only in their respective rooms and limited moderator access also but aside from that, room admins can't do much more without those arrangements being discussed and agreed upon with the Chatmaster account - no further comment.

VIP was and is an excellent venture by, well, "the site" let's just say, however once the chat software changes, hmm, yeah, no comment but also there are provisions for that type of scenario in the terms and conditions when a user purchases VIP.
