here is something i've learned while helping one of the mods gather evidence against a pedophile which correlates directly into this serious design flaw;
you can only scroll through past messages, as far back as an
hour...
which is by design;
basically, after a certain amount of time
(hour) the chat's message history auto purges obviously this is due to server limitations & is put in place in order to lessen strain on the server; however, what wasn't common knowledge until the general chat admin openly admitted to & tried backpeddlng on the fact that the reports expire...
you can reference the blatant denial, cover up, & backpeddling to this fact in this thread;
https://forum.chat-avenue.com/threads/reports-in-understaffed-chats.949509
reports expire because after an
hour the chat's message history purges & those reports are purged a long with those messages...
so after an
hour, it becomes impossible to verify anything unless exactly as
@Bread. pointed out that there is a mod online within' that time frame to view & action that report...
so if screenshots are only admissible evidence if there is a relevant report, & those reports expire after an
hour bc the chat purges all messages every hour & a half, then how is anything actually being investigated at all???
You are correct.
Once the flagged report gets purged from main chat, whether it be through the limitations of chat history or
manually purged by a deceitful mod, then there is nothing to action. Thats how simp moderators like Jeez and Sean give special treatment to little asian favorites by simply deleting their offences, not infracting them for it.
But infract(harass) TOP TIER users for literally the exact same thing.
A good admin would stop this harassment, not deny it or enable it like Argaemathos
what is stopping people now with this confirmed knowledge, from making fake screenshots of someone they simply don't like, & when questioned on it's validity just simply saying; *oh, there weren't any mods on for 3 hours, & since reports expire within' that timeframe there isn't any active report to accompany my screenshot of X user's behavior* can't exactly call them a liar when theyre exploiting that flaw, bc technically that is how it's designed, so those screenshots have to be now taken at face value...
Nothing has ever stopped them from doing this.
As i stated in my opening post, screenshots are
inadmissable as proof(or so they say) unless there is valid log of them accompanying them. That is to say, screenshots have always been taken at face value(
allegedly). Whether the screenshots are real or fake holds no bearing because
apparently theyre only actionable if theres a system log to accompany it. Ie theres nothing to exploit (
allegedly)
We know for a FACT losers will photoshop screenshots and the only real way to combat this is to not accept them wihout a system log.
You can thank losers like Snacker for this.
because now it's apparent that there is no way to validate anything, bc those reports acted as definitive means to the mod or admin viewing them that a violation did actually occur, & after the chat history purges (every hour) those reported violations cease to exist destroying that accountability 🙂
not to mention that basically the only way to increase the shelf life of reports, is to increase the shelf life of the chat history, which will just add strain to the server which basically means it'll never be increased, so after an hour if no mods are on there isn't any point in reporting anything bc those reports will have been purged & might as well have never been made; so it's a loophole that'll never be closed & only exploited now that it's been put out in the open by the general chat admin
not exactly a flaw the admin of a room that attracts some of the most detestable people should be making confirmed public knowledge
Well, for gen chat it seems to be 1 hour since its a large room. For smaller rooms the history and therefore the validation of reports seems to be extended. As of July 2023 that was 6 hours, but ive seen it change from 2 to 24hrs and so on. So YMMV.
The shelf life of reports gets magnified by
poopy, outright LAZY administrators and no real way to hold them accountable.
As was the case here, when an administrator outright REFUSED to look through the history a mere 3 hours with a BLATANTLY dangerous report.
One practical solution is active moderation, but try to reason that with
poopy administrators like argaemathos who are ecstatic to have moderators like Rwby login once every 3 weeks because he loves her "quality" volunteer time. Even if you increase the shelf life of reports, active moderation is still needed. Because what good is having 24hr reports if no moderator logs in through those 24 hours.
Overshadowing that solution, is changing rules to not include subjectivity or discretion on how the room rules are applied. This will enable the
poopy moderators to be exposed easier since their actions would be a matter of yes or no, not they thought so.
As it stands now these
poopy administrators want a great deal of TRUST bestowed upon them while offering ZERO transparency.
To sum it all up, CM controls everything, including the rules the admins set for their own room.
So basically the blame is all on CM like it has always, Is and forever will be.
