I see everyone is so keen on banning an AR for purchase but crickets about the mass shooting that happened last weekend in Alabama with illegally obtained AR15. People are always fast to attack the system put in place to obtain them legally but never the illegal shootings that occur regularly, and then we have the gun haters who blame America yet don’t bring up mass stabbings that happen. I am a teacher and i wish it was legal to open carry in my building because I would protect staff and students swiftly in the event of a shooter. It’s easy to feel some kind of way when children are being killed, it hurts me on a very deep level and it’s not just schools where children are dying from gun violence but taking them away from law abiding citizens who can also protect innocent lives is not the answer either. We need better mental health care period. Ask our government officials why they are heavily protected with our tax dollars yet our schools have weak security in place for our children.

At the top, the largest government level involved in education is the federal government. The federal government provides money to districts and schools.

@TheDifference @little cindy lou who Therefore, you’d think the government would take a special interest in keeping students safe as well. I work in education, both in a school (recent past) and with the district itself (current), so I can actually speak from firsthand experience. To say that I don't care about the safety of students because I prefer school security as opposed to gun control is absolute craziness. We all want our students to be safe and can all agree that school shootings need to be stopped. In order for that to happen though, politicians must come up with different solutions. Yet, Republicans' budget proposal to beef up school security has already been rejected. Look, I know for a fact that the only security we had at the school I worked at was to call the district police to come when we have threats or major issues. They are not there in the school with me, which means it could be too late by the time they even show up on campus during a shooting.

If gun control becomes a thing and criminals are known not to follow the rules anyway, who would own the guns in that type of society? The criminals. That’s right, folks! In the meantime, law-abiding citizens have no means of protecting themselves, and well, you can't bring a knife to a gunfight. My question to everyone in this thread is, how would gun control solve school shootings?

Also, obtaining guns legally isn't an easy process. You have to spend money and take classes as well as go to a shooting range. You have to have a license to carry. Meanwhile, criminals can just buy from other criminals in order to bypass all of those steps. How are you protecting the innocent by removing our means of self-defense?
