Tried Rittenhouse straight rye whiskey. Looking to recreate what the man who built this old farm would have drank in 1890s. OLD FASHIONED COCKTAIL. 1tsp demetera sugar. 2 dashes bitters, 2 oz rye, orange peel. The grain bill of the whiskey is 51% rye not the traditional 95%. Lemon peel may work better here because orange peel is already in the taste profile of the rye and smoking material i am trying to match it to has a strong lemon background and an herbal/spicey thing plus pale fruit flavors. Plenty of dried banana and a touch of peach. Probably better mixed than neat because It has some burn to it. Bottled in Bond falls in the timeframe (1897) and is 100 proof to hold up to melting ice.
