A thermarest..much more comfortable and the weight is worth it..

Would you rather use a down bag all the time or a synthetic bag all the time?
 
Synthetic. They don't pack down as well but they're easy to dry out if you need to.

WYR use a gas stove or a coleman stove (white petrol)?
 
A gas stove.I still have my original MSR pocket rocket....Coleman are way too heavy.

Would you rather use boots or the more trainer style walking shoes?.
 
It depends on the conditions. In winter boots obviously, In wet conditions, boots, in fine conditions lightweights.

WYR wear gaiters or sealskinz socks?
