Female UM?

I made a point in another thread that sometimes, people prefer speaking to a particular gender in regards to issues.

Could we consider getting a female UM for this reason?

A woman reporting sexual harassment might not want to deal with a male, for example. On the other foot, a male might not want to speak to a female... or maybe he does want to speak to a female over more sensitive issues that wouldn't be deemed masculine or something. It could also help to have someone see something from another viewpoint.

Not disregarding current UMs (Well, not the majority of them) being approachable or anything. Just think it might be a nice idea to have both a female and a male in a UM position for moments where this might be the case?

Thoughts?

OP has suggested appointing people specifically based on gender, (Soapie replied)it seems to me if one supports the OP premise, the question logically flows-

If it seems less "odd" feel free to reverse the roles, or feel free to interpret it as "any gender"

so my intent was to see what others thought about the effects of filling positions specifically on genders without thinking of possible consequences, since Soapie replied to me and was one of the few not flinging insults or derailing, I chose to engage.
And instead you made yourself look stupid. Again.

You cannot honestly think having a female on the UM team would be a bad choice beyond your dislike of me being the one to suggest it. Even you aren't that stupid.

Then, after we have a female, we could look at a trans or non binary UM in the future. Dutch also has a good point further up. But for right now, even a female UM could bring some yin/yan balance to the team.

As meat loaf sang….

HR do be saddddd, cause 1 outta 3s fucking baddddddd.

Take the hint.
Edit: lmfao the only no. And we get called bigots!? 🤣

I realised the point you were making after I asked and was mid-post when you replied, but to answer the question you posed:
Im curious though, assuming a trans (of any kind) was a staff member- and a user objected to them handling an issue, (on any grounds) then what?
A trans male is male and a trans female is female, so it’s really a moot point. There are very few people here that regard a trans male as not being male and a trans female as not being female, and for those few they’d have the option of talking to others.

that's a good point I never knew that. Still, this seems to be a lot of bluster to manifacture gender representation in OP- specifically female. (id say the same if it was revered btw)

With 20-30 regular forums users, it might just be easier to make them all staff👽
If a transgender individual was promoted to UM and a chatter specifically requested that a different UM handle the issue, why would that be handled any differently than if someone requests it now? People have different strengths. If someone wants a long-winded, overly detailed novel explaining how to address an issue, call me. If you're looking for a quick video walk through, @Inkandtatts is your man. Why would it not be okay to request that a particular UM address a complaint? At risk of stating the obvious, trans people are people and UMs are UMs. There should be no exceptions as to how moderation should be handled based on if an individual is cis or trans.

I think the point was talking with someone who is trans full stop. Which as I mentioned... God knows when, simply being uncomfortable with that is perfectly fine, as long as you are respectful about it

(Ik this aint directed at me, but oh well I can't help myself)

Whatever you identify as I don’t care as long as if whoever is in a UM position is competent. I judge people on actions and whether they’re an arsehole or not.

But if you’re calling someone a bigot when you’re being more of a bigot, then yes I’ll be a bigot as per your example.

pretty sure singles chat had a trans mod. There is a trans admin not naming because clearly HR is oblivious which thus proves this whole thread is necessary. Gay chat has a trans mod. I think. Boys chat has a trans mod.

So what?
Indeed. I think her name was Emotional Relief Cat/Destructive Angel.

Just like I might not be comfortable with a male, or with a female. And as for non binary, as you mentioned earlier, there's usually a sense of fluidity where they identify as feminine or masculine on any given day and are understanding of the confusion this can cause so usually make it known which energy/identity they are currently experiencing.

@Apollo 25% is still 25% and if you and Ness explain why it could be a good move, he might be more open to it

Also, I was thinking more of a UM that was a fish… I’m just unsure what kind of fish should be hired. Stay tuned.

Yes. Of course all the things I say about this and being comfortable apply to anyone no matter what you are. Just saying that now as to not have to re-state it everytime 😅
