I think access to certain forums should be restricted to underage users

Recently, there was a thread posted here that contained content that is not suitable for underage users. Even the person that posted the thread in the Adult Forum had no idea that children could easily see the thread simply by clicking on What's new and anyone can see that. Just like movie theaters do not let children go see Rated R, NC-17 and X rated movies because its contains content that is not suitable for children to see, so I believe that Forums should be set up in a similar way if possible.

So this has topic has been floating around my brain all day and I thought of something else.
If it’s unlikely that any major change will be made to the forum operations, maybe something small could be done to start with.

When you click the header for each section in the forum there is a little blurb that greets you. For the Adult Section it says this:

“Chat about whatever is on your mind. Must be 18 or over to post in this forum.”

What if another sentence was added to remind people creating threads that the content may be viewed by minors. Maybe something like:

“Chat about whatever is on your mind. Must be 18 or over to post in this forum. When creating threads please remember that your thread may be viewed by users under 18. Please be thoughtful about the content you post”

Or something to that effect. @Samwise are forum admins able to change the wording themselves? Obviously with the approval of CM. Yes, I realize this isn’t much but it’s at least something and doesn’t require changing the forums operationally. Just a thought 🤷🏻‍♂️

Good idea.

Forum mods can't change that wording though that's CM who does that.

You have different chatrooms on different servers with different software and different rules.

Always possible to have 2 age restricted forums. Adults only and Youth. Just need an owner that isn't so fucking lazy and money hungry that mixing adults and children is an 'acceptable' risk.

But then again, they would probably put a creep like Samtard in the youth forums as UM

all public chatrooms and public forums should be age-restricted, if anything, there should be ah man and I hate to say it cause it is such a genius idea. You know how there are call centers to handle bullshit for companies. Boom, Call Center of Moderators for internet chat rooms at least here in the USA, a for-hire service, with its own training criteria and standards; that in turn, gives owners of all US-based chat rooms and websites, a better option, no more playing favorites and cliques. an some kind of incentive like a tax write-off or some bullshit, so that companies use them on their platforms.

An in turn there would be options for companies, while said company would have their own criteria of standards and training, training to handle, trolling, mental health **** said online, etc, companies could require said new employee to follow their policy as well, but still, not allowed to deputize any new volunteer moderators.,

Think of it like, Uber, or Grub Hub, a new way to work from home, and earn money in your spare time. It would require background checks and everything, photo/state ID, etc.

An who monitors the monitors, each company would have full access to records of said employee while that person is employed, and if the site owner wants to have a volunteer to monitor those employees, fine and dandy or the company can do wtf ever they want in regards to having access to those records so they can monitor said employee.

So long as you create an environment where both children and adults can gather, you will not be able to keep them from interacting with each other.

Xenforo (forum software) does not have an option to do what OP is requesting.

This is all further complicated by the fact that both adults and children will lie about their age as well as the site having to deal with COPPA/GDPR and other lawful stuff.

The only practical solution is to create a site forum for children and a site forum for adults but we all know chatmaster isnt going to do that considering he allows them to gather in the actual chatrooms.

I think it's impossible to not have bad actors, but consequences for them can still apply. Permanent IP ban if you're caught lying about your age, and if you're a creeping adult now the FBI knows you're a creeper (as is already the policy I think).

When you have a system designed for you to be able to freely change you age back and forth (or completely hide age) it doesn't help keep users safe.

See this thread: https://forum.chat-avenue.com/threads/permanent-sitewide-age-implementation.942694/

Site IP bans for age seems a bit much. A kick seems more appropriate. But it's all rather pointless since the system in place has no standard to verify age. Short of sending photocopies of your ID to this private site,(whom the owner has already been seen violating their own privacy policy) seems a bit of a far stretch.

No they can’t do it but on the other hand he’s not going to change rules for somone just because they want them changed there his rules and have been set for a reason x and if they do not like the rules as it stands they should find a site that fits there needs on rules x

Except my suggestion has nothing to do with changing the rules.

@Chatmaster here is a good suggestion^^ for your consideration which would help with some concerns of the community users, in particular for the adult forum, kids forum and perhaps EE if this could be added to the header:

"When creating threads please remember that your thread may be viewed by users under 18. Please be thoughtful about the content you post”

Thank you @TheDifference
Thank you @LostCause.

Even though only CM can change forums headers, we have updated this thread to remind forum users about what they post. https://forum.chat-avenue.com/threads/forum-faqs-≧◡≦.12015/#post-374120

Ofc thank you @Rachel_NY for your thread and moving us in a good direction here.
