Relief Mods

Not sure how that was allowed. Making users prove their worth or more at loyalty in order to become real mods. I think if a chatter is made a relief mod it should be for a defined period of time after which they are made full mods or in lieu of that lose their relief mod status. I know most admins here have good hearts and mean well maybe except one.
 
Gay chat has 5 staff and one probationary new mod with 1000 ******** on average and we manage fine.

Probationary periods for new mods is a good idea before they are showing on forums as a mod (which I believe is what most admins do) for a specified length of time.

yes, and agreed a set time before turning blue here in forums. not years and try to skirt room mod limits.

The old 8 mods per room limit is flexed for a few of the larger rooms.

Relief Mods, I don't understand the value of it and how it can be managed properly. It seems to me that it is more a control thing than anything that would benefit the room as a whole...a relief mod reminds me of the old 1990's movie with De Niro, Dicaprio and Barkin - This Boy's Life....This is my house and you do as I say...I know a thing or two about a thing or two.
 
Its 4 -12 weeks depending on how much time they get in room. Most go on to staff mod positions -if those are full they can go on a list, and may be assigned for limited duration while a staff mod is on vacation for example.

It is 4-12 weeks so when they do become staff mods- they are very well trained by the solid crew at General Chat- which is the whole point of the program. It is easily managed, has been implemented for about 2 years in our room.

Similar approaches are common in the workforce or real life volunteer organizations- including other rooms on this site. It has worked out well but does take some time and effort. And it has worked well enough that I have other rooms often asking me if we know of good mod candidates etc


(edit: if it makes anyone feel better, you could use the term "probationary" instead of relief) 🙂
 
I was a moderator for 9 months before I was made offical staff in the forum.

My point is, if I can do it for that long without the forum resources, why can’t a few relief/probationary mods do it for 1-3 months? Because all these mods are adults, with the exception of Kids Chat and Teen Chat.

On a personal note, I find General Chats part-timers to be lovely, level headed and fair with the stuff they have to put up with on there. Some of the drama llamas on here would end up snivelling messes huddled in the corner if they had to deal with the stuff these mods do.

I go in there once to talk to some old friends, and I get hounded non stop by one of them. You speak highly but do not care about those who are being bullied. I was there for five minutes. I had one tagged on me demanding I tell the room that I loved her. I was not comfortable with that. The other relief mod did nothing. I did get a real mod to stop the relief mod. And you think that is lovely? You are nothing but a bully yourself.

Different people can have different experiences in the same room with the same people. Just because Pinky has a different opinion/experience than you doesn’t make her a bully.
I can’t speak to the chat room behavior but nothing I’ve ever seen her post on the forums was bullying. Unfortunately, I can’t say the same for you.

I have collaboration as there were ******** in there that witnessed what occurred. I don't know about you but I do not get off having a mod relief or otherwise pm me twenty times in fucking row asking me to tell the room that I loved her. Maybe this plays okay with you and HR but I consider that harassment buddy. Mind your own fucking business since you were not there.

As I said once already, I can’t speak to what was going on in the room. I was only addressing what you said about Pinky being a bully. No reason to be hostile with me. I was civil with you.
If you have an issue with a mod, you know what to do.

What!?! 4-12 weeks ! you can tell if a mod is going to make the grain within 2 weeks! That is the biggest heap of b/s ever ! Plus the mod in question in that room a LOT so make her a Mod or stop dangling her on a string and that will stop her hanging off your every word .

I think it’s time to step away, take a breath and come back and see what you wrote to me, when all I was doing was saying what my experience with mods in there was like, and how bad it was for me on the forum before I was staff, but made do. You know I’m not a bully. Please don’t call me one.

Doesn’t need a blue name to know it’s already a screw up. Posts reveal a lot.

The type that looks on dating sites demanding a man with a 6 figure salary and the only thing it contributes is a headache and damaged goods.
