Sports General Discussion

Wouldnt be the olympics without controversies prior and during. Excerpt taken from the BBc website:

American swimmer Lia Thomas has had a legal case against governing body World Aquatics dismissed by the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

World Aquatics (WA) voted in 2022 to stop transgender women from competing in women's elite races if they have gone through any part of the process of male puberty.

Thomas, 25, was the first transgender athlete to win the highest US national college title in March 2022, was attempting to overturn the ban, arguing the rules were discriminatory. Cas first had to determine whether Thomas was eligible to challenge the rules.

World Aquatics praised the ruling and said it is a "major step forward in our efforts to protect women's sport". "World Aquatics is dedicated to fostering an environment that promotes fairness, respect, and equal opportunities for athletes of all genders and we reaffirm this pledge," a statement said.

"Our policies and practices are continuously evaluated to ensure they align with these core values, which led to the introduction of our open category.

"We remain committed to working collaboratively with all stakeholders to uphold the principles of inclusivity in aquatic sports and remain confident that our gender inclusion policy represents a fair approach."

Big, BIG day for some sports enthusiasts tomorrow! Aiiieeeeee

Euro Cup final - Spain vs England - backing Eng all the way
Wimbledon Mens final - basically a rematch from last yrs final, with Djoko hoping to take revenge.
Copa America 2024 - Colombia vs Argentina - hoping Colombia can pull it off

P.S. Haven't watched an entire Wimbledon Women's final in yrs and I think I found a new fave female in Paolini, the little cutie from Italy, who almost won her first grand slam today. Hoping she can take it all the way in the US Open.

As if no Brits mentioned the Euros. Anyway, England lost as usual. Spain won. Nobody got an extra Bank Holiday.

it's never coming home
England is not good enough to win anything, all of their premier league greats for the most part like 92% is Spanish, German, French, Brazilian and many others. English players are ok that's all they will ever be. That's why the teams with the most quality is always full of french or Spanish or German, Brazilian players

The Mens team also medaled for the first time in ages. Biles is a force and will go down as the greatest gymnast in history.
The greatest she is one. If I had to make two Mount Rushmore she would be on the second one in a heartbeat.

Different note Hall of Fame game for Football is this night.

Julien Alfred from Saint Lucia has just won the women's 100m, beating the favourite - USA's Sha'Carri Richardson; this gives her island country their first ever Olympic medal. Yaaaay!

Tomorrow Djoko against Alcaraz (the same bastar..I mean guy who beat him in Wimbledon) for gold medal - would be the first for both.

Both great players I think Alcaraz will get close to Djokovic's record of 24 grand slam titles but he won't equal it. I think he will win about 20 grand slams.

You're absolutely correct, none of the upcoming players as good as they are, will achieve that 24. (hopefully 24+) I really would like Djoko to clinch the gold medal its the one thing his haters, mostly the feral Federer fans, always use against him 🙄
